The BCCI appoints Jumbo ( Anil Kumble) as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team for the period of one year.
In the process for selecting the Head Coach, the Board received 57 applications and further trimmed down to 21. These application were evaluated by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Mr. Sachin Tendulkar, Mr. VVS Laxman and Mr. Sourav Ganguly with Mr. Sanjay Jagdale.
The committee interviewed Jumbo and other shortlisted candidates in Kolkata on Tuesday. CAC made their final recommendations to the BCCI on wednesday. Thakur, along with Shirke, made the final call.
Jumbo is the first Indian to be appointed full-time India coach since Kapil Dev resigned in September 2000.
Mr. Kumble’s first assignment will be the upcoming series of four test matches against West Indies in West Indies.
India is set to host 13 Test matches, 8 ODIs & 3 T20Is in 2016-17 and Jumbo will play a major role in the Indian team to attain the top ranking in all three formats of the game.
Jumbo’s coaching inexperience is made up by his 18_year long international career experience. The great player is known for his great fighting spirit and never giv-up attitude.
