Jadeja played a crucial role at the end by scoring 22 runs of just 12 balls which made CSK reach the score of 169-5. Pick of the bowlers for GT were Mohammad Shami with an economic spell of 5 and Alzarri Joseph picking 2 wickets. In response GT got a poor start by loosing 4 wickets for just 48 runs in 8 overs. As it happened :

SRH won the toss and opt to field as it was the pattern followed by all the captains during the initial phase of the tournament. KKR never got the start they wanted as their openers were dimissed pretty cheaply.Their captain Shreyas Iyer played yet another anchor innings scoring 28 of 25 deliveries. But it was Nitish Rana who top scored their innings, scoring a fine half century 54(36), leaving the finishing job to Andre Russel, who took apart the SRH bowling scoring a quick 49 in just 25 balls which led KKR reach a respectable total of 175 for the loss of 8 wickets. Pick of the bowlers for SRH were T.Natarajan who picked up 3 wickets for 37 in 4 overs. But the talk of the innings was the bowling of Umraan Malik who conceeded just 2 runs in the 16th over against Russel. Lets not forget about the yorker to dismiss Shreyas Iyer. In reply, SRH chased the target with the help of their 2 pillars of their middle order Rahul Tripathi 71(37) and Aiden Markram 68 (36) getting the job done in 18 overs.

RR winning the toss put KXIP to bat and what follwed was supposed to be a disastrous decision where Punjab were all over Rajasthan as their skipper Rahul scoring 69 runs while his opening partner Mayank scored a scintillating century and with the brilliance of Nicolas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell towards the end, KXIP posted a massive total of 223/3. RR in quest to chase the record total of IPL history , made a good start despite loosing their star batsmen Butler early in the innings. Their skipper Steve Smith along with Sanju Samson made most of the powerplay scoring 69 runs in just 6 overs. Then quickly in the span of 2 overs, Smith departs for a quickfire 50 of 27 balls and thats when things started turning back towards KXIP. Runs started to dry up at one end as Rahul tewatia, who was promoted up the order against the likes of Robin Utappa and Parag, fails to find the middle of bat while Samson kept the run rate going from one end. The dots from the blade of Tewatia has put pressure on Samson who took the attack towards the opposition. With the increase of the required run rate pressure, Samson took on Maxwell for 21 runs in 16th over but soon perished in the next over bowled by Shami leaving behind the Required Run Rate to 18 RPO. Punjab were on top of the game, shared smiles and gigs, without anticipating the upcoming Tsunami approaching them. In this story, the Tsunami took the form of Rahul Tewatia – a villain turned into a hero as Tewatia hit 5 sixes in 17th over bowled by Cottrell . All of a sudden, Tewatia's score read 47(29) from 17(23) which proved to be an absolute blinder. The rest was history as RR recored as highest successful run chase in IPL history.
